Pool legend ‘Bata’ Reyes shoots for carom Gold in 30th SEAG

on

MANILA, Philippines — Pinoy Pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes will once again compete in the three-cushion carom men’s singles, together with Francisco dela Cruz in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Despite having a right shoulder injury, the 65-year-old Reyes will play in the carom event since there’s no other athlete left to play.

Reyes won a bronze medal the last time the event was held in Palembang, Indonesia back in 2011. Reyes said he is yet to win gold in the event.

Reyes, who already has 70 international titles, denied that he will retire from the sport.

Reyes is a four-time World 8-ball champion, three-time US Open champion and one-time World 9-ball Tournament champion.

He has also won 14 times in the Derby City Classic and he also serves as the coach of the Philippine team in billiards.

Also out to make a strong showing in the regional-biennial meet for the Philippines are top Filipino pool players Dennis Orcollo, Chezka Centeno, Rubilen Amit, and Carlo Biado. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
