MANILA, Philippines – Google has in its “Doodle” a special feature honoring the 126th birth date of the Philippines’ very own María Ylagan Orosa.

Orosa is a well-known inventor of banana ketchup and pioneer in food technology and war heroine.

She graduated at the University of Seattle in pharmaceutical and food chemistry before she returned to the Philippines in 1922 to focus on the problem of malnutrition.

She also developed the Soyalac and Darak during World War II that benefited Filipino soldiers, Americans, and other nations during the war.

She died when a shrapnel shard hit her in the heart during a US bombing raid, on February 13, 1945.
