MANILA, Philippines – A nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, who is competing in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, was rushed to the hospital over the weekend due to an allergic reaction to peanuts, which was one of a dish that was served, ABS-CBN News reported on Wednesday, 27 November 2019.

Faiq Jefri Bolkiah, Brunei Football team captain and the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah, was brought to the Manila Doctor’s Hospital for treatment on Sunday (November 24) said the team’s medical staff, Faisal Hashim.

Faisal said Faiq had an allergy attack during dinner time at the hotel they were billeted.

“It was in the curry. His lips got swollen and his throat felt tight. I brought him to the Manila Doctor’s Hospital myself accompanied by one of the staff,” he said.

Faisal said SEA Games organizers had been informed of Faiq’s peanut allergy beforehand.

While Faiq has fully recovered from the allergy attack, Faisal asked that each ingredient in the team captain’s meal be listed to avoid a repeat of the incident.

Meantime, Athletes’ Village head chef Bruce Lim, in a press conference, said that they will make sure ingredients of each dish will be “up and posted” for the reference of the SEA Games delegates.

The SEA Games will be held in various venues across the country from November 30 to December 11. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
