MANILA, Philippines — TNT guard Roger Pogoy will not be able to play for Gilas Pilipinas in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after sustaining a back injury against Magnolia on Monday, 25 November 2019.

TNT won 93-87 to advance in the semifinal round but paid a heavy price.

Gilas team manager Gabby Cui said that Pogoy sustained a disc buldge—an injury he suffered late in TNT’s win over Magnolia in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

The Gilas star had to be helped off the court in the closing stretch and was visibly in pain as he received treatment along the sidelines.

Pogoy had 8 points and 7 rebounds in TNT’s win before exiting the game with under a minute left.

Tim Cone named Pogoy to the final 12 of Gilas Pilipinas that will aim for an 18th gold medal of the Philippines in the upcoming regional-biennial meet.

His replacement is yet unknown at press time Wednesday.

Gilas will open its campaign against Singapore on Dec. 4, before it meets Vietnam on Dec. 6 and takes on Myanmar on Dec. 7 for preliminary Group A action at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
