3rd of mass vaccination vs polio to be conducted in Manila

MANILA, Philippines – To keep away cases of polio, the local government of this city is conducting soon the third round of massive polio vaccination in all barangays.

So said Manila Health Department (MHD) Chief Dr. Arnold Pangan adding that a synchronized polio vaccination will be conducted from November 25 (Monday) to December 7 (Saturday), 2019.

Pangan said the vaccination would not only be carried out in the barangay hall but they will also have field personnel and volunteers who will rotate from houses to immunize infants with the anti-polio vaccine.

Meanwhile, Manila Barangay Bureau (MBB) Chief Romeo Bagang issued a memorandum calling on all barangay chiefs to intensify their campaign against polio.

Bagang wants to ensure that 95 percent of children under the age of five are vaccinated against polio in their area.

According to MHD, data about 160,000 children or 81.6% were vaccinated against polio during the last two rounds of synchronized immunization program of the local city government of Manila. (Gelica Paulo/IAMIGO/CNS)
