VP Leni to Duterte: Be straightforward if you want me to be drug czar or not

on

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo said Thursday (21 November 2019) that President Rodrigo Duterte should only tell her straight to resign as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) if he has no confidence in her.

“Dapat diretsuhin na lang ako. Diretso naman akong kausap… Kung ayaw na niya, kung nagkamali siya sa pag-appoint sa ‘kin at gusto niyang bawiin, sabihin lang niya. Kasi ako, madali akong kausap,” said Robredo following a meeting at the Dangerous Drugs Board, the policy-making body of the government’s war on drugs.

The Vice President said she is still wondering why the President had appointed her in the past several weeks.

“I don’t understand,” said Robredo, who has been a co-chairman for ICAD for almost two weeks.

Robredo said Duterte should clearly explain the scope of her work.

“Kailangan siya yung magsabi ano ba yung mandatong binibigay sakin, ano ba yung limits,” Robredo said at a news conference last night.

Duterte said he had no confidence in Robredo because she belongs to the opposition and he did not expect the Vice President will be talking to unconcerned individuals and this is accordingly the reason why he is preventing her from attending cabinet meetings. (Chris Figueroa/IAMIGO/CNS)
