MANILA, Philippines- The Manila city government is planning to set up a burial ground for Muslims by 2020.
This was revealed Friday (15 November 2019) during a surprise visit of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Chairman Nur Misuari to the office of popular Yorme Isko Moreno at the city hall.
The controversial MNLF chair thanked the alkade mayor for “giving importance to the Muslim community as to be given a cemetery of their own.”
Moreno told Misuari that this “gift” is being studied by the Muslim community in Manila and that, it would a first in the National Capital Region for a city to provide a cemetery for Muslim sisters and brothers.
The Yorme emphasized that the tradition of the Muslim religion is to be considered in the construction of the Muslim Cemetery which might be located in the vicinity of Manila South Cemetery. As this developed, it was learned that Muslims will no longer carry their dead to faraway Bulacan, Taguig, or Mindanao should a plan for a Muslim Cemetery in Manila pushes through.
