MANILA, Philippines – The University of the East Red Warriors promised to end their 82nd UAAP Season men’s basketball campaign on a high note but they instead exited the eliminations with a scary 79-76 win over equally-determined National University Bulldogs on Wednesday, 30 October 2019, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
The Red Warrior star player Rey Suerte exploded for a career-high 28 points as UE finished the season with a 4-10 record, three wins better than last season.
On the other hand, Alex Diakhite produced 17 markers and 12 boards to help Suerte lift the Red Warriors.
Meantime, graduating player Nick Abanto only made 6 while fellow seniors Philip Manalang and Jed Mendoza chipped in 5 apiece.
NU’s JV Gallego and Dave Ildefonso scored 20 points each in yet another heartbreaking loss for the Bulldogs.
UE wrapped up their campaign at seventh overall with four wins and 10 losses while NU, after a string of close game losses, ended up at the cellar with a 2-12 win-loss record. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
