Water agency needs 200M liters more to meet demand in MM

MANILA, Philippines – An official of Manila Water on Sunday, 27 October 2019, said the water agency needs at least 200 million liters more to meet the demand of an ever-growing clientele in Metro Manila.

Speaking before the Balitaan sa Manila media forum in Sampaloc, Manila, Manila Water business operations chief Kristine Guevarra said the agency faces a very high supply demand and as such she urges consumers to save water as only needed during water interruptions.

Metro Manila consumers said Guevarra need at least 1.6 billion liters of water daily and Manila Water can only supply or provide 1.4 billion liters per day hence, the water agency needs 200 million liters of water daily to meet the demand of consumers.

“Kailangan magtipid upang bumagal ang draw down sa dam para mas ma-preserve yung limitadong suplay ng tubig,” said Guevarra.

Meanwhile, Manila Water Portfolio Manager Ana Kristina Josef said it would be best not to use the shower in taking a bath,  recycle water used in washing clothes into water used for washing cars and disinfect and recycle water on swimming pools so as to conserve water.

Guevarra and Josef also called on everyone’s cooperation to conserve water amid the dwindling supply and rotational water interruptions in Metro Manila. (BCUARESMA/IAMIGO/CNS)
