San Beda back in the NCAA finals

MANILA, Philippines — The San Beda Red Lions is back in the finals after an 85-62 quick work of new-age rival Lyceum of the Philippines University on Thursday, 17 October 2019, at Filoil Flying V Centre.

With it, the Red Lions thusly completed a superb 18-0 elimination sweep and 14th straight finals berth of the NCAA season 95 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

And for the record, San Beda twice outlasted the LPU Pirates in as many finals encounters in a convincing manner.

The Red Lions starters dominated their Pirates counterpart, 53-29.

Donald Tankoua top scored the Red Lions with a season-high 26 points and 8 rebounds, while the MVP candidate Calvin Oprana had 18 marker with 10 rebounds for a double-double performance.

Jaycee Marcelino paced the Pirates in the losing effort with 17 points with 4 rebounds while Mike Nzeusseu sat out after sustaining a right hand injury.

The LPU remains the second seed but will not get a twice to beat advantage this time as they will go through a stepladder semifinal eliminations.
