Romualdez On Senate Decision Of VP Sara’s Case
House Speaker Martin Romualdez calls out the decision of the Senate to archived the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to Speaker Romualdez, it is clear that the law says that only in the House of Representatives the power to impeachment can start, and they (Representatives) had acted on their Constitutional duty.
“We exercised that power lawfully, transparently, and in good faith — not out of spite, but out of duty. Not to attack, but to ask for answers — answers the Vice President never gave”. said Romualdez
The Speaker’s cousin and Presidential sister, Senator Imee Marcos alluded that the impeachment is a political maneuver to eliminate the VP from the 2028 race, as Romualdez himself plans to run for the Presidency. Romualdez denied the accusation.
“This was never about political maneuvering. It was about accountability — pananagutan — anchored on verified facts and sworn documents” said Romualdez.
The House of Representatives already filed a motion of reconsideration to the Supreme Court. The Court had ruled the articles of impeachment as “unconstitutional”.
“Tuloy ang laban. For the Constitution. For the rule of law. And for the enduring truth that no public office is ever beyond the reach of accountability”. Romualdez added.
