PH Eyeing To Buy More Brahmos Missile

The Philippines is set on securing more Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles as part of modernization of the military to help strengthen national and regional defense in response to different geopolitical challenges.

In an interview with India’s Firstpost aired on Wednesday, PBBM said military officials who witnessed the demonstrations of the missiles were “ confident” in the defense equipment.

“From the demonstrations that they’ve seen, from the training that they’ve received both in India and in the Philippines, the practice runs that they’ve done, they seem confident in the equipment. And I think that we are in the process of actually procuring more.” The President said.

The procurement of those missiles is seen as a positive development in the country’s much needed military modernization.

“The Philippines is in the midst of a modernization of our military. So we are looking to see what’s the most suitable for our defensive needs. Let me be clear, though. We are not girding up for war.” said PBBM.

Those missiles are also crucial for the defense of the maritime territory as tension continues due to China’s aggressive illegal claims.

President Marcos Jr. said “We are simply reacting to the challenges that we are facing. Those challenges, those tensions have increased in the past years. And so this is just the reaction to that”.
