Las Vegas, NV — July 20, 2025 — In a dramatic return to the ring, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao squared off against rising star Mario Barrios in a highly anticipated welterweight clash that ended in a controversial majority draw. The fight, held at the sold-out T-Mobile Arena, marked Pacquiao’s first professional bout since his 2021 retirement, and fans around the world were quick to react to what many are calling an injustice in the scorecards.
Two judges scored the bout 114-114, while a third judge gave Barrios a narrow 115-113 edge. However, many ringside observers, analysts, and fans strongly felt that Pacquiao controlled the pace, landed the cleaner shots, and outboxed the younger fighter for the majority of the 12-round contest.
The fight started with Pacquiao, now 46, showing flashes of his vintage form—his speed, timing, and footwork drawing cheers from the pro-Pacquiao crowd. Barrios, 30, struggled to keep up with Pacquiao’s aggression early on, only finding some success in the final two to three rounds. Those late-round efforts appear to have swayed the judges just enough to deny Pacquiao a clear win.
On social media, boxing fans voiced frustration at the outcome, with many labeling it a “robbery” and calling for a rematch. The phrase “Pacquiao Won” quickly began trending across X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
“I thought I did enough,” Pacquiao said in the post-fight interview, calm but visibly disappointed. “But that’s boxing. Sometimes, it goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t. I’ll talk to my team about what’s next.”
Barrios, for his part, acknowledged Pacquiao’s performance: “He’s a legend. I had to dig deep in the later rounds. Much respect to Manny.”
With the bout ending in a draw, speculation is already mounting about a possible rematch, which could be even bigger in the eyes of promoters and fans alike. For now, though, the result leaves a bitter taste for those who believe Pacquiao’s comeback was unjustly denied a celebratory victory.
