Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expressed his interest on Wednesday to seek the position of vice president in 2022 if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte chooses him as his running mate.

“I’m vying for the vice president position, but this is still very fluid because it’s still being discussed with groups. There’s no final decision yet,” Gatchalian, a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), said.

“I will not run for VP [if I am not chosen as Sara’s running mate]. I have already signified my intention to her. I even thanked her for drafting me in her team,” he added.

Gatchalian said he already told of his plans to possibly run for vice president with Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto 3^rd, who is the NPC chairman.

Sotto, for his part, said he will push through with his plan to run for vice president in 2022 as the running mate of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

Lacson and Sotto will formally launch their bid for 2022 on September 8.

“I don’t know about the thinking of others as far as I’m concerned, come October I’m filing my certificate of candidacy as vice president of the Republic. No preconditions,” Sotto said.
