MANILA, Philippines — A 58-year old man was reportedly jailed after he donated an HIV-infected blood and by giving false information on his sexual activities in Singapore.

On Wednesday, 06 November 2019, the man was charged for false declaration of information on his condition causing him a sentence of four months of jail time on top of a huge S$20,000 fine.

He allegedly lied in his answers to questions regarding his previous sexual activities under his donor health questionnaire.

He had no direct response to questions whether he had engaged in a sexual activity with another male and whether he had sexual activity with anyone that he knew for fewer than six months in the past year.

Before he even answered the health questionnaire, he was told by a medical screener that it is a law offense to lie or declare a false information regarding his health.

He was later called by the Health Science Authority for an interview regarding his medical condition when they found out that his blood is HIV-infected.

The man eventually admitted that he lied in answering the questions and he had sex with another male a year ago.

He said that he would not be allowed to donate blood if he didn’t lie about such information. The man added that he won’t donate blood if he had known about his HIV-positive status.

The judge acknowledged his statement and told him that he could receive a jail term of up to two years and an S$20,000 fine for giving false statements regarding his blood donation. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
