Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has signed the 2020 budget of the Manila City government amounting to nearly P18 billion.

Domagoso on Thursday, November 7, signed Ordinance No. 8585 creating the 2020 executive budget amounting to approximately P17,857,086,146. This is the biggest budget to be passed and fastest to be signed by the City Mayor, according to the Manila City Council.

CITY SOCIAL SERVICES

The city government’s Social Services would receive the highest allocation, amounting to P8,529,942,113. This is equivalent to 48 percent of the total budget.

Under Social Services, a total of P1,818,785,300 would be allocated for the city government’s social amelioration program which has 301,092 beneficiaries.

In addition, the 2020 executive budget allotted P300,473,186 for Universidad de Manila (UdM) and P145,490,000 for Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM).

The rest of the Manila City Schools will also receive a total of P130,161,037 budget for next year for their operational requirements.

The city government also allotted P1,269,971,136 for its environmental management efforts.

A total of P350,000,000 would be provided for the city government’s peace and order efforts, while P742,590,482 would be allotted to local disaster risk reduction and management efforts.

The city government’s housing services, which includes the Land for the Landless program and the Vertical Housing program, would get an allocation of P300,000,000.

GENERAL SERVICES, NON-OFFICE EXPENDITURES

The city government’s General Services comes second, with an allocation of P4,109,796,562 or 23 percent of the budget.

This is followed by Statutory and Contractual Obligations, with an allocation of P3,046,077,153, and Economic Services with P2,171,270,318.

Compared to the 2019 budget with only P14,862,263,289, the 2020 executive budget enjoys an increase of P2,994,822,857 resulting to the total budget of P17,857,086,146.

TOP 5 ALLOCATIONS PER OFFICE

Among departments, the Manila Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) would get the highest budget allocation, amounting to P1,865,689,579.

It was then followed by the Office of the Mayor with P1,761,432,544, the Manila Health Department with P1,301,780,203, Department of Public Services with P1,269,971,136, and Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center with P1,051,012,471. (with reports from STACY ANG)
