The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday said they would issue show cause orders against 30 mayors who were slow in distributing the cash assistance to beneficiaries under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
“Para po dito sa mga lugar na naging mabagal ang distribusyon ng SAP, nagutos na po si Secretary Eduardo Año na magpalabas show cause orders sa di lalagpas na 30 mayor sa buong bansa,” said DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, at virtual press briefing.
Malaya declined to disclose further details about the 30 mayors as the DILG will issue a formal announcement regarding the matter.
Malaya said the DILG will order the mayors to explain why they failed to meet the deadline in the distribution of the cash aid last May 10.
“Pagpapaliwanagin po natin ang mga mayor kung bakit di nila nailabas or na-distribute ang Social Amelioration Program bago magkaroon ng deadline noong May 10, 2020,” he said.
The DILG earlier said a total of 1,265 LGUs nationwide were able to meet the May 10 deadline set by the government in distributing the first tranche of the emergency cash aid.
Some cities in Metro Manila met the deadline for distributing cash meant to help their poorest residents cope with the coronavirus pandemic, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Wednesday.
Cities with a 100-percent payout include Manila, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Parañaque and Valenzuela, said DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.
Majority of other towns across the country have given the P5,000 to P8,000 cash aid to 90 percent of beneficiaries and those with an 80-percent payout rate were asked to explain their performance, he told DZMM.
The DILG is checking reports that some local governments failed to observe physical distancing during the payout, he said. An inter-agency task force requires the public to stay at least 1 meter apart to minimize the risk of virus transmission.
“Hindi kasi puwedeng sabihin natin iyong kakulangan ng oras para hindi mo i-observe iyong proper system (You can’t cite lack of time as an excuse for not observing the proper system.),” said Ano./Stacy Ang
