All elderly citizens, whether with or without monthly pensions from the Social Security System or the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS, may now get a full stipend of 1,000 pesos per month as soon as the bill amending the Expanded Senior Citizens Act gets approved.

KABAYAN Partylist Congressman Ron Salo says Congress has successfully consolidated 23 bills that aims to raise the monthly social pensions for senior citizens from 500 pesos to 1,000 a month.

Salo, who presented the bill before fellow Congressman Francisco Datol Jr, shares that as chairman of the House Technical Working Group, they burned the midnight oil just to complete the bill to help the elderly at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

” The minimum would be P 1,000 to increase the monthly social pension from the current P500…”

Salo says the bill amends Republic Act no. 9994 or the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010” by scrapping the numerous conditions set by law before any senior citizen receives the stipend.

The bill now allows all senior citizens, regardless of condition in life or in health, or whether one has a pension provider to get the full stipend.
