The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 25-year old public high school teacher who posted in his Twitter account an offer to give P50 million reward to anyone who can kill President Rodrigo Duterte.

NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric B. Distor identified the suspect as Ronnel Mas who was arrested Monday in Barangay North Poblacion, Sta. Cruz, Zambales by agents of the NBI-Dagupan District Office (DADO) under the Regional Operations Service. Distor said Mas currently teaches Social Studies in Taltal National High School, has completed Master’s Degree and is now pursuing a Doctorate Degree.

The case against Mad stemmed from a post on his Twitter account which states “I will give P50 Million reward kung sino makakapatay kay Duterte”. Upon receipt of this information, Distor said he directed DADO Agent In Charge (AIC) Rizaldy Jaymalin thru Deputy Director for Regional Operations Service (DDROS) Lawyer Antonio Pagatpat to track down subject Mas and place him under arrest.

Operatives of DADO then began to track Mas whereabouts by tracing the links of the comments on his post. After determining his possible location, operatives of DADO lost no time and rushed to barangay Poblacion North in Sta. Cruz, Zambales and coordinated with barangay officials resulting in the arrest of suspect.

Distor said Mas was brought to the NBI Head office in Manila and was presented for Inquest proceedings before the Department of Justice for Inciting to Sedition in relation to R.A. 10175 or the Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012 and Violation of R.A. 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials.

Distor stressed that the NBI is serious in carrying out its mandate to pursue cases involving threats to security or assaults against the person of the President as well as that of the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court pursuant to section 5 paragraph (g) of Republic Act No. 10867./Stacy Ang
