The number of healthcare workers who have contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has climbed to 2,420, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 1,163 of these health workers have recovered from the respiratory illness while the death toll has remained at 31 since May 10.
“Paunti na nang paunti ang naitatala nating healthcare workers na nagpopositibo,” she said in a virtual press briefing.
“Patuloy na tumataas ang bilang ng ating mga COVID-19 survivors mula sa hanay ng ating mga healthcare workers,” she added.
The remaining 1,226 infected health workers are active cases or undergoing treatment or quarantine.
Of this number, 936 are mild cases, 288 are asymptomatic, and two are in severe condition.
The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases are nurses with 879 infections, doctors with 682, nursing assistants with 148, medical technologists with 89, and radiologic technologists with 45.
The DOH also included 304 other non-medical staff in the tally.
