Davao, Philippines — The number of casualties continues to rise following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Matanao, Davao del Sur on Sunday, 15 December 2019.
In a recent report by the National Disaster Risk and Management Council on Wednesday, nine (9) people were confirmed dead while 111 were allegedly injured, a slight difference from the 99 earlier reported by the NDRRMC.
Meanwhile, another one was reported missing following the quake and recovery efforts are underway.
The above statistics were recorded in Davao Region and Soccsksargen.
Up to 700 aftershocks occurred from Sunday to Tuesday, of which 70 were affected.
Before the earthquake hit, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred first in Padada, Davao Del Sur at 4:18 a.m.
At least 41 public structures have been affected in the Davao Region and Soccsksargen, of which nine (9) were reported to have been heavily damaged and partially damaged.
Out of 128 schools, 20 were reported as partially damaged.
A total of 19 health facilities have been affected by the temblor.
Apart from the above, 30 privately-owned buildings were reportedly damaged. (Marian Sinamban/IAMIGO/CNS)
