A commuter group has asked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for the suspension of the franchise of the Florida Bus services Incorporated particularly those plying the Manila-Cagayan route.

Lawyer Argee Guevarra, convenor of the PASADA CC, a non-governmental organization which aims to pursue the welfare of Filipino commuters and consumers, said that Florida buses had figured in a series of accidents in Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija in recent weeks which led to the deaths of several people, including a pregnant woman and injured commuters and innocent bystanders.

Last February 14, 2020,  a Florida bus rammed four houses in Nueva Vizcaya injuring seven people and destroyed private property.

“The LTFRB must not allow these Florida buses to transform its license to operate as license to maim and kill. Its franchise to service our kababayans in Cagayan and Nueva Ecija has become a disservice to the public at large . They are dangerous and are accident-prone. The LTFRB should suspend or even withdraw the franchise of Florida buses,” said Guevarra.

The Florida bus management should ensure that every single bus that leaves their terminals undergo a 22-point checkup to ensure the safety and integrity of their buses, said Guevarra./Stacy Ang
