According to Garcia, The decision was due to lack of preparations for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.
This turn of events happened after BARMM Chief Minister Abdulra of Macacua signed the bill, also known as the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Redistricting Act of 2025 or BAA No. 77.
Campaign period started today, August 28, 2025 and will run until October 11 or 2 days before the election.
There were 2.3 Million total of registered voters to elect 73 of the 80 parliamentary seats, as citizens will have the duty to directly choose their representatives. In 2019, The BARMM was created under a peace deal between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Government .
