DOH logs almost 3 times more recoveries from Covid vs new cases

The Department of Health (DOH) logged almost three times as much recoveries compared to new cases on Tuesday, or 25,146 recoveries versus 8,615 new cases.

With the new recovery count, the total number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 reached 2.561 million.

The DOH, in its latest Covid-19 bulletin, said recoveries account for 95.4 percent of the total 2.683 million infections since the start of the pandemic last year.

The 8,615 new cases and 236 new deaths pushed the overall tally of active cases to 82,228 and the death toll to 39,896.

The latest figures showed 73.2 percent of the active cases are mild, 14.2 percent are asymptomatic, 3.8 percent are severe, 7.28 percent are moderate, and 1.6 percent are in critical condition.

“There were 57 duplicates removed from the total case count as 38 of these are recoveries. Moreover, 120 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it said.

The DOH data on October 10 also showed that 15.5 percent of 34,175 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

All laboratories were operational on Oct. 10 while three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on data in the last 14 days, the four non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.4 percent of samples tested and 0.4 percent of positive individuals.

To date, 68 percent of 4,400 intensive care unit beds, 52 percent of 21,200 isolation beds, 54 percent of 15,300 ward beds, and 50 percent of 3,200 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use nationwide.

Meanwhile, 66 percent of 1,500 intensive care unit beds, 43 percent of 4,900 isolation beds, 49 percent of 4,300 ward beds, and 51 percent of 1,000 ventilators reserved for patients with Covid-19 are being used in the National Capital Region.
