If elections for local officials will be held today in the National Capital Region (NCR), the mayors of Quezon City, Manila, Pasig, Valenzuela and Navotas will easily win.
According to an independent non-commissioned survey, the following NCR mayors are sure to win unopposed: Quezon City Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte, Pasig Mayor Victor Maria Regis “Vico” Sotto; Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagosot; Valenzuela Mayor Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian; and Navotas Mayor Tobias “Toby” Tiangco.
The ratings were based on the NCR Halalan 2022 survey conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMDinc).
It showed that Belmonte had a preference rating for mayor in Quezon City at 65 percent against Kalusugan party-list Rep. Michael Defensor, who had 24 percentage points.
For Domagoso, he is assured to win against closest rival Rep. Manuel “Manny” Lopez. But if the Manila mayor runs for a national position, his Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna is likely to win.
Pasig City’s Sotto is also likely to be unopposed with his most possible rival, former Pasig mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio, having only a preference rate of 25 percent against the incumbent’s 68 percent.
Meanwhile, Rexlon Gatchalian of Valenzuela City may run for a position in the House and another member from the clan can easily become the city’s mayor unopposed.
Tiangco of Navotas City, according to the survey, is also likely to run without opposition in 2022.
The survey of RPMDinc covered 5,000 respondents in face-to-face interviews.
