The medical condition of former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada, who is battling the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), may have worsened as he was moved to an intensive care unit (ICU) after contracting pneumonia.
Former senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada said his father is now in the ICU for “closer observation” but said his father is in “stable but guarded condition.”
“While he needed to be placed on high flow oxygen support, we are thankful that there has been no need to put him on a ventilator,” he said on Facebook.
Jinggoy said his father has to be sedated “to lessen his anxiety which may affect his heart and aggravate his condition.”
“The family would like to thank everyone who has expressed their love and support and we request continued prayers for his immediate recovery,” he added.
The 83-year old Estrada was rushed to a hospital last March 28 after testing positive Covid-19.
