The Quezon City government has placed four areas in the city under a “special concern lockdown” after the detection of a sudden increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases most likely caused by gatherings during the past holidays.
The city government said in a statement on Tuesday that it has imposed stricter community quarantine status at the localized level on No. 62 Agno Extension in Barangay Tatalon; No. 1 Salary Street in Barangay Sangandaan; No. 54 Interior, Magsalin Street in Barangay Apolonio Samson; and 9C, 9D, 97 La Felonila Street in Barangay Damayang Lagi, all in Quezon City.
Agno Extension and Magsalin streets each had 60 affected families, for a total of 120.
In La Felonila Street, 150 families are affected in the strict quarantine, said the city government, while in Barangay Sangandaan the lockdown is affecting five families.
Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the City Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit, said the affected families would undergo swab testing to identify other infected persons.
He said that those who would be tested negative for Covid-19 would have to complete their 14-day isolation requirement to make sure they would not infect other people.
This is not the first time the Quezon City local government imposed a localized lockdown or quarantine. On January 14, it imposed a strict quarantine over a portion of the Pingkian 1, Central B in Barangay Pasong Tamo. CURRENTPH
