The Philippines on Wednesday reported 1,594 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, raising the nationwide totals to 72,269.
“As of 4PM today, July 22, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 72,269,” said the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin #130.
The Department of Health (DOH) said 46,803 cases are active.
The five provinces with the highest number of new cases were Metro Manila with 971, Cebu with 252, Zamboanga Del Sur with 53, Negros Occidental with 35, and Rizal with 26.
There are also 46,803 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 90.1 percent of which are mild, 9 percent are asymptomatic, 0.5 percent are severe, and 0.4 percent are in critical condition.
The DOH said figures reported on Wednesday were based on data submitted by 78 out of the 89 operational laboratories.
The number of people who recovered from the contagious disease rose by 342 to 23,623.
The DOH also reported 6 new fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,843.
Of the 6 deaths, 5 (83%) in July and 1 (17%) in June.
Deaths were from NCR (2 or 33%), Region 6 (2 or 33%), Region 7 (1 or 17%), and BARMM (1 or 17%).
Some 89 duplicates were removed from total case count. “These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH also said./Stacy Ang
