The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country surpassed 54,000 on Saturday with 1,387 new infections, of which 918 are “fresh” or newly validated and 469 are late, bringing the nationwide tally to 54,222, Department of Health (DOH) said.
“As of 4PM today, July 11, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 54,222,” said DOH COVID-19 CASE BULLETIN #119.
Among the fresh cases, 261 are from the National Capital Region, 62 are from Region VII, and 595 are from other areas across the country.
Among the late cases, 178 are from the National Capital Region, 15 are from Region VII, 276 are from other areas across the country.
There are also 38,813 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.
The DOH also announced that the total recoveries rose to 14,037 with a record high 807 new recoveries.
“In addition to the 918 fresh cases, 469 late cases were also reported today. Today’s fresh cases are based on the daily accomplishment reports submitted by only 71 out of 79 current operational labs.
DOH likewise announces 807 recoveries. This brings the total number of recoveries to 14,037,” the DOH also said.
The death toll increased to 1,372 with 12 new fatalities.
Of the 12 deaths, 9 (75%) in April, 1 (8%) in May and 2 (17%) in July.
Deaths were from Region IVA (5 or 42%), Region 3 (4 or 33%), and NCR (1 or 8%) while the 2 July deaths came from Region 7.
A total of 79 duplicates were removed from total case count.The total cases reported may be subject to change as these numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation./Stacy Ang
