Senator Sonny Angara on Monday evening said he is recovering from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This, Angara said less than a week after he tested positive for the virus.
Angara posted a selfie on social media, thanking those who prayed for his healing.
“Recovering thanks to your prayers and some good medical attention,” he wrote in the caption of his photo.
His wife, Tootsy, earlier said that their family and household staff also had to undergo a 14-day quarantine after they were exposed to Angara who was a carrier of the virus.
“Family and friends sent us drinking water when we ran out. They sent us oxygen too,” she said without elaborating if the senator had needed machine assistance for his breathing.
“Some sent us fruits, vegetables, medical supplies cleaning aids, vitamins for our household… I am forever grateful for all the beautiful and kind souls God blessed us with,” she said in a separate post.
Under the Department of Health’s policy, Angara will have to undergo 2 confirmatory tests before he can be declared as a “recovered” patient.
Another senator, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, earlier said he has recovered from the virus, but has yet to take the required confirmatory tests.
Meanwhile, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who tested positive for COVID-19, has been brought to a hospital.
The senator was brought to an undisclosed hospital in Metro Manila because “he was not feeling good.”
The name of the hospital was not named in the report. It was also not mentioned if Pimentel was admitted for confinement.
Pimentel was reportedly feeling better now, the report said.
Pimentel has been in isolation since March 24 after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“I am okay. Don’t worry about me. Thanks,” the senator was quoted as saying./Stacy Ang
