WHO warns coronavirus spread might overwhelm health systems

The World Health Organization (WHO) describes the coronavirus pandemic as something which has the potential of overwhelming a country’s health system, if mitigation and containment measures in a particular country fails. COVID-19 cases has since tripled outside of China for the past few weeks, while cases in China and South Korea have since decreased.

The global health agency recommends that countries implement a whole of country approach putting great emphasis on merging containment and mitigation measures as one.

THOUGH THIS IS THE FIRST INSTANCE WHEN A CORONAVIRUS IS DECLARED A PANDEMIC, The WHO BELIEVES THAT THIS IS ALSO THE FIRST CORONAVIRUS TO BE CONTROLLED AND CONTAINED.

81 countries continue to be safe from the virus spread, and the WHO says these countries should prevent and protect their borders from allowing this virus to set foot in their respective territories.

Fifty seven countries have reported ten or less cases of COVID-19 infestation. Most new cases have broken out in Europe, particularly in Spain.

WHO is focusing on efforts to contain the virus in Africa where health systems are deemed weaker than other countries.
